Have you ever made a video or taken a photo and then later deleted it because you didn’t want anyone to see it?
Well, this week when the Timehop app reminded me of this video, I could barely believe it still existed.
My mind started to race as I tried to figure out where that dang app had gotten ahold of it!?!
Maybe Timehop had somehow retrieved it from my hard drive?
Maybe it was just an image and the video would not actually play?
No such luck!
Turns out that video was completely PUBLIC and available to ANYONE ON YouTube!
(and had been for the past THREE years)
As I realized what had happened I thought, “Wow! I can’t believe I created something so awful and put it out there anyway.”
As my finger hovered over the DELETE button, a small voice inside of me whispered to watch the video before deleting it.
I’m glad I did.
After watching the video, I still wanted to delete it, but then I decided it might actually be a better idea to SHARE IT instead.
Because although this video is completely inconsistent with my brand (I’m not wearing any makeup and I’m practically in my pajamas) the message I was sharing is a good one that still applies today.
So here it is. The embarrassing 1-minute video I made three years ago. (The link is below, try not to laugh ok?)
The execution is HORRIBLE but the message is still POWERFUL.
I’ve come a long way in the past 3 years, and I thought you might like to see that.
Just like anyone else, I didn’t start out doing things well, and I’ve had to keep working at them in order to be able to do them better.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I encourage you to do things badly so you can learn how to do them better.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned the hard way, it’s that people don’t want to see that you can do everything PERFECTLY, they do want to see that you are POWERFUL and making PROGRESS.
Don’t let the need to do things perfectly keep you from doing them at all.
Instead, be powerful by DEFYING your fear of doing things badly at first. You’ll get better the more you practice, I promise.
Oh and here’s the link to that video I promised you…yes, yes I DID bury it way down here on purpose. 😉
Until next week,
